CID UNESCO in RUSSIA

30 th World Congress on Dance Research
   Moscow, Russia, 29 April-4 May 2011

You are cordially invited to attend the largest gathering of dance specialists world-wide, the best opportunity to showcase one's work to a wide audience of practitioners, dance teachers, choreographers, researchers, journalists, organizers and suppliers.
Over 500 conferees from 50 countries of the 5 continents attend every year.
All forms of dance are represented. Strictly non-profit.
Not to be confused with festivals, workshops, competitions, forums or open conferences.
Intended primarily for professionals, it is a trade fair and a participatory event, facilitating contacts with colleagues and informal discussions.

The 7-hours-a-day program includes:
-  Research reports (papers) are presented and discussed among peers
-  Lectures on original subjects resulting from long experience
-  Classes, where teachers give a short demonstration of their method
-  Performances by dance companies, duos or solos
-  Video projections presenting choreographies or full performances
-  Exhibitions and sale of books, records, pictures, costumes, accessories etc.
-  Evenings where members can discuss in a relaxed setting or dance to local music.
-  Visits to places of special interest, such as dance schools, museums, sites etc.
The congress is organized by the Moscow Section of CID, in collaboration with the International Dance Council CID. Venue is the Cosmos Hotel
Submitting a presentation (research report, lecture-demonstration, class, performance, exhibition, projection) is optional. For each presentation a text must be sent before 10 April  2011.
Absentee presenters can register also; their presentations will be included in the program and in the proceedings. The proceedings DVD circulates worldwide in many thousands of copies; it is sent free of charge upon registration, together with other gifts.
To apply for a visa to consulates and/or financial assistance, registered participants receive an official certificate. Please make arrangements as early as possible.

Accommodation

Cosmos Hotel is located in a green district of the North – East of Moscow, on one of the city’s main streets – Prospect Mira, within 20 minutes drive from the center. The closest metro station – VDNKH. Distance to the airports: Sheremetyevo – 35 kilometers; Domodedovo – 55 kilometers; Vnukovo – 40 kilometers. The closest rail road terminal – Rizhsky – within 4 kilometers. A 5-storey building of the Cosmos hotel was built in 1979.
There is a total of 1771 rooms in the hotel: 1383 standard rooms, 332 standard rooms of extended comfort, 45 suites and semi-suites, 6 apartments, 5 grand suits.

Information for World Congress participants
Contributing a presentation (research report, lecture-demonstration, class, performance, exhibition) is optional.
For each presentation send a text to be included in the proceedings DVD. Texts must be in English, in .doc format. Additionally you can send your text in any other language (as separate file).
To accompany your text you can send illustrations, music and/or video samples, files numbered 1 to 10 (no more) with their captions listed in the above text file.
Illustrations must be in .jpg format, up to 500 kb each.
Music samples in .mp3 format.
Video samples format: .mpeg2  or .divx. Maximum total size: 2 mbytes.
Consult the proceedings DVD of last year's Congress to get ideas for your presentation.

Each participant can submit only one presentation in each category (not two classes or two performances, for example). He/she can submit a second presentation in common with another participant, whether attending or absentee.
Presenters must be registered in advance to be included in the printed program.

RESEARCH REPORTS (PAPERS)
Send the complete text (by email, as well as in printed form) one month before the congress to be reviewed and included in the proceedings. Texts must be up to 6,000 words, including: title, name of author, text divided into numbered sections: introduction, sub-sections, notes, references, captions of illustrations, short presentation of the author, name and full address.
If you cannot attend, you can register and send your text to be included in the proceedings' DVD, after approval.

Time allowed is 20 minutes for brief oral comments (not reading the submitted text), including time for questions by the audience. All co-authors must be registered conferees, even if they cannot attend the Congress.

 Research reports submitted must be unpublished and may have as topics:
-  Research conducted according to scientific methodology (ethnographic, sociological, historical, pedagogical, psychological, medical etc.)
-  Studies of dance as related to other topics such as music, costume, theater etc.
-  Organizational, artistic, social, scientific, educational, economic and other approaches based on documented proposals.
-  Reports on the situation of dance in a specific area, field or country.

LECTURE-DEMONSTRATIONS
A lecture-demonstration can include film, video or slides projection, with oral commentary by the presenter. Presenters use the language of their choice, without translation. Time allowed is 20 minutes, including questions by the audience.
Send a file with details: title, text, photographs, music or video samples, duration, name and address of presenter, equipment required. Formats as above.

CLASSES
For a physical demonstration of a dance or a teaching technique, time allowed is 30 minutes. Send a file with the title of your class and its description. You can include photos, music and/or video samples (see formats above) for the proceedings DVD.

PERFORMANCES
For a performance on stage time is strictly limited to 10 minutes (5 minutes for solos) since the audience is composed of dance specialists. Send text file with title, description, requirements. You can include photos, music and/or video samples (see formats above) for the proceedings DVD.

EXHIBITIONS
Publications, costumes, music, equipment for schools and other material can be exhibited or sold. Specify minimum wall and floor space required. The organizers assist exhibitors but do not assume responsibility. Send text file for the proceedings DVD, see formats above. If you cannot attend, you can register and send material to be put into participants' bags.

VIDEO PROJECTIONS
Just give your DVD or cassette to the video room supervisor to be played there.
If you cannot attend, you can register and send your DVD to be played in the video room.

SCHEDULE
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday : Registration, check-in, visits, meetings etc. Visit to the embassy of your country.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday: Research reports, lectures, classes, exhibitions and video projections at 10:00-16:00
Evening performances, 20:00-23:00
Sunday: Visits, meetings, group photographs and closing activities.

REGISTRATION
Upon check-in conferees receive their badge (to wear at all times), a dancer's bag containing the detailed program, information material and gifts by sponsors. Payment of CID membership fee (55 euros) and Congress registration (65 euros) can be made by check, bank transfer or www.paypal.com  No other fee is charged.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION
We advise you to book a flight on Tuesday or earlier. You can obtain information on cheap flights to Spain from the consulate or travel agencies in your country. Book as early as possible to secure low rates.
Ask for a hotel in or near the city center. We can send a list of travel agents, or hotels. You can also contact the accredited travel agency.
